Respite care

Taking a break is important. Respite is a short term stay designed to give a carer a break, but may also be used when the unexpected happens. Respite at Palm Lake Care gives you 24/7 nursing care and assistance plus the company of others with the opportunity to engage in the lifestyle activities provided.

It means peace of mind that your loved one will be cared for when you can’t. It also gives a taste of contemporary aged caring communities and all they have to offer.

What is the difference between respite & permanent care?

Permanent care has more inclusions and allows us to develop an individual care plan that might involve allied health services such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech pathology etc. Permanent residents have their appointed GP visit them in the home, and very often dental technicians, podiatrists and others. Permanency allows us to manage medications by opening a pharmacy account.

What are the requirements for respite care?

It’s pretty simple. Firstly, you need an ACAT assessment approving you for high care respite care and we obviously need availability to accommodate you. Vacancies come and go quickly, so you can register your interest for respite and we can call you when vacancies become available. Respite can be pre-booked at Mt Warren Park now before we are completely filled with permanent residents.

What do I
pay for respite care?

ACAT approval for respite means the Government will subsidise up to 63 days per financial year. Your only contribution is the Basic Daily Fee which is 85 % of a standard aged pension. Click here to see the current amount. Palm Lake Care do not charge Additional Service or Extra Service Fees. There is a one off charge for labelling if you would like to use our valet laundry service. Respite is usually booked in blocks of 2 weeks and paid in advance of admission.
